Re: Strange/Weird Fandom Encounters

When I made some fanworks for Uhura/T'Pring from Star Trek, along with other people who were getting in on the crack pairing too (around the time Star Trek Beyond came out); there was a rise of people that got mad about it that largely came from Kirk/Spock shippers. In the midst between these people theorizing that deep down we really wanted to ship a fem version of Sprik or that T'pring was too 'evil' to ship with anyone - I had one person constantly message me because I had done Spirk fanworks before this femslash pairing, so why wasn't I just doing more Spirk fanworks instead? (because you know, in the star trek fandom there's next to nothing when it comes to Kirk and Spock fan works *eyeroll*).
Needless to say I blocked them and turned off my messages for a while.

It happened before the Tumblr porn ban, so it was around when Tumblr was at it's most batshit until people left after the ban - then miraculously the hate died down.
It unfortunately put me off of Spirk as a ship because of it (well TOS Spirk - AOS Spirk offers that good flavour of angst/comfort that I like and look in on from time to time).

God, that sounds excruciating. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I'm sorry that happened.
I got kicked off a Trek forum for suggesting that Tony Shaloub's character in Galaxy Quest had a Chinese name as a Trek in joke about Dr. Soong being played by obviously-not-Asian Brent Spiner. (Anybody who's seen Galaxy Quest knows there are a zillion Trek in jokes in that movie.)
