Re: Strange/Weird Fandom Encounters

Not encounters exactly, but as someone who's worked background in Vancouver for many years, the nicest industry celeb, for my money, is Kevin Smith. I was on set with him a couple of times during his run directing Supergirl, and he is wonderful to work on set with. I'm not necessarily trumpeting his artistic genius, so much as his personal and professional character. He was professional, efficient, upbeat, kind, and generally just fostered a really positive work environment.

On the flip-side, while I never had any personal run-ins with him, literally everyone I ever talked to who actually had contact with the guy said that Stephen Amell (Green Arrow guy) was an asshole. There was no other actor I ever heard so consistently described as being a hostile, combative bully--including by people like hair and wardrobe teams who actually had a fair amount of contact with him.

You know, I always got that vibe off Kevin Smith, too. I liked Clerks and Clerks 2, but generally speaking his stuff isn't my cup of tea. But it seems like he tries to be a good person, including his professional life. He might not always succeed on account of being a giant doofus, but I believe he sincerely tries. I also suspect that his insider knowledge of how Hollywood can be drives his determination not to be one of those asshole actors/directors.
