LOL... for those of us who didn't watch a lot of of those movies in the 2000s, is this movie at least enjoyable in a trainwrecky, crackfic kind of way? Asking for a friend!

OP here. I am completely incapable of neutrality. I love this movie. I had a blast. Each little side character had a cute little arc and I love it. The bear was CGI'd well. The costuming was nice. The child actors were great.

I feel like Rodger Ebert about the Mummy: "There is hardly a thing I can say in its favor, except that I was cheered by nearly every minute of it. I cannot argue for the script, the direction, the acting or even the [bear], but I can say that I was not bored and sometimes I was unreasonably pleased. There is a little immaturity stuck away in the crannies of even the most judicious of us, and we should treasure it." Except I am not so impartial and it's not as good as The Mummy.

I would say don't pay full price (or sneak in a couple of shots) if you don't love goofy creature-features.

Hahaha, thank you. I may give it a try because I could use a laugh.

Never Cry Werewolf was my shit! Especially because I think I was about 16 at the time and getting a hot werewolf neighbor was my dream. Although I felt uncomfortable finding the dude hot who played the neighbor. I gotta rewatch it.

I love those shitty sci-fi channel movies. Like the ghost pirate ship movie.

I'm probably the same age range as OP and we never had cable, so I didn't see any of the movies mentioned.

I LOVED Cocaine Bear. Mostly because I enjoy any creative endeavor where the people making it understand that not everything has to be high art, and sometimes silly spectacle or outrageous-to-the-point-of-hilarity violence can produce amusement and dare I say joy in the viewer. And who's to say that's any less important than sending the viewer down some long philosophical road upon which they question everything and audit their morality?

Sometimes you need a movie about dealing with poverty and ethical standards. Sometimes you need a movie about a bear that eats a shit-ton of cocaine. IME it's a lot harder to find the second.

My friend watched a lot of those movies and he didn't like "Cocaine Bear". I think his expectations were too high?
