Fat woman characters in fantasy and sci-fi setting?

(Anonymous) 2023-04-09 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
What are some female characters in fantasy/sci-fi media that are fat or overweight? Secret 2 made me think about it but it's not really related. I'm fat myself and don't think I've seen many, so I wanted some recs!

Only thing I know of is the Blood and Ash book series. Then there are some fantasy or scifi erotica books where the main character is plus. But those are explicit, at least the ones I've read.

I have a hard time remembering specific books of the genre. They all kind or run together.

From what I remember, the first book of Cherise Sinclair's Mountain Masters series has a plus size main character.

Kidnapped for Christmas by Evangeline Anderson as well.

Scarlet Avery has a whole series with plus size women called Curves Envy.

There are definitely more that I'm not remembering at the moment.

Lady Sybil and Agnes Nitt from the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett.

Some of Ursula Vernon/T. Kingfisher's main female characters from her fantasy romances.

I know there are more but my brain is mush rn.

Agnes Nitt (Discworld witches books) is the only young woman who comes to mind-- not that her portrayal is, like... unproblematic by modern standards, BUT, I found her feelings about her weight really relatable when I was younger, and appreciated that like... she got to be a witch! She got to be a fat girl who was still magic! It was a big deal to teen me.

Dulia-Chai from Final Fantasy XIV is a notable one for me. She's a lovely, funny character with a good amount of growth for being a side character, and her weight is never made an issue. I adore her. (And so does her husband!)

Seconding this. She's a wonderful, developed character whose weight never comes into play or affects how people treat her, and she has plenty of people who love her (her husband included) just the way she is.

She's also hella strong and smart, being the one to balance the books for her husband's engineering business it turns out! It's a throw-away line but. It always strikes me that this means she's good at financials, while her husband, Chai-Nuzz, builds because he loves to make her smile.

Willow Park from The Owl House. She’s chubby and even though she gets into a sport and works out, she never loses her chub.
