I've seen a few people host fanart in one place but upload it to Ao3, and I love the idea and hope it catches on.

The problem is what happens when hosting sites go down and also very few places will allow nsfw art in the first place, but if your art is worksafe at least that's not an issue.

This is what I do, hosting my fanart on Tumblr (most of it) or DW (if it's nsfw) and linking on ao3 but it's not ideal.

I've got the impression that people find fanart on AO3 a bit annoying. I upload my fanart sometime there but still

I can't imagine using AO3 as a main fanart platform - simply for the fact that you can't see any thumbnails/preview of the artwork and have to click through every time. I personally couldn't be bothered to do it.

I don't think AO3 would be a good place for fan art unless they started implementing a way to preview the art work while looking through the submissions. Otherwise it gets tedious looking through artworks on titles and summaries alone.
