What is your favorite and/or least favorite Romantic Comedy? Why?

Favorite is by far My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

I dunno if it's my favorite, but I love Anthony Head in Imagine Me and You. "If I had killed her when I first thought about it, I'd be out by now..... a free man..."

To All The Boys I've Loved Before and To All The Boys: Always and Forever. Nnnnot really a fan of the middle one. It was fine.

Also, if it counts, Shrek 2.

Favorite is Moonstruck. I don't know if it's because I'm in my thirties, but I really enjoy how it looks at love as both fiery passion and as a more settled, practical thing. Love that Loretta is a widower and most of the main cast are capital-a Adults (23-year-old Nicholas Cage is the youngest, IIRC).

Least favorite is probably Crazy Stupid Love. I do like the Ryan Gosling/Emma Stone subplot, but everything else kind of gives me the ick.

I am really, really not a fan of romcoms, so anything in which I have liked the romance is generally because I was enjoying other things about the movie more (e.g. Miss Congeniality - nice, but the movie would be fine without it).

With one great exception: the sadly cancelled TV show Selfie. On paper it looks like a lot of things I would hate (embarrassment! romance! office romance! a show about a woman asking a man for advice!) but in fact it's just...so delightful and light and wonderful. Karen Gillan and John Cho are perfection and every single supporting cast member is putting their whole body into it.

I always wanted to watch selfie (love both leads) but I missed it when it was on air and can't find it anywhere! :(

Truly the only one I've ever loved was French Kiss, with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline. Idk, their chemistry was really fun, and Kevin Kline makes a surprisingly charming dirty Frenchman haha.

Every so often, Meg Ryan impersonating him going "my ass is twitching. You people make my ass twitch." pops into my head out of nowhere.

Hands down, The Switch. I don't like romcoms generally, but this one is smart, genuinely funny, touching and believable, with other important relationships than just that between the two main characters. Plus, it actually utilizes Aniston's considerable comedic talent, and I adore Jason Bateman.

I'm not sure I can narrow my favorite down to one.
While You Were Sleeping - it really is sweet and for all the machinations, the characters feel genuine.
Moonstruck - it's weird and passionate and unexpected.
Four Weddings and a Funeral - it's funny as hell, especially all the swearing, and it's charming, as are the main characters despite their (many, many) flaws.
Mannequin - it's hard to explain why I love it so much, given how truly silly it is and how bizarre the actual premise is and how totally 80s it is, but despite all that or maybe because of it, it is such a fun and satisfying watch, plus Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now still rocks.

Honorable mentions to Desperately Seeking Susan and Two Weeks Notice

My least favorite is probably All About Steve - it is honestly so, so terrible and I feel very sorry for Sandra Bullock because I really doubt this movie is what she set out to make. Though Plus One gets an honorable mention because it annoyed the crap out of me, the characters were just so exasperating to me.

Not The Favorite but a favorite of mine is "Fools Rush In". I love Salma Hayek, she and Matt Perry had good chemistry. It's just cute and easy to digest if you don't think too hard about it. I also like the soundtrack.

While You Were Sleeping, Paperback Hero (early Hugh Jackman before he went to Hollywood), and Ticket to Paradise (which wasn’t great tbh but I could live off the chemistry between Julia and George).

While You Were Sleeping is perfection.

As is You've Got Mail tbh. I know some people don't like the deception plot line (whereas that whole trope is one of my faves) and the triumph of big business is a bit blah. But it's still utterly delightful and I will fight anyone on this point.

I also have a super soft spot for 27 Dresses.

Least favourite:

That Sandy B/ Ryan Reynolds one everyone likes - I think they had minus chemistry and I don't know why it's so many people's fave.

While I don't hate the movie, I hate the trope of movies like Sleepless in Seattle - no, you shouldn't upturn and uproot your entire life for a dude you heard on the radio! To paraphrase Benoit Blanc, it's not so dumb it's romantic, it's just dumb!

I'm not very big on romcoms, so I don't really have any I dislike because I just forget about them.
My favourites are While You Were Sleeping, Bringing Up Baby, Sabrina and Doc Hollywood.

SA 'cause I forgot to say why, lol.
WYWS - Everything the secret said.
Bringing Up Baby - They to a leopard, Katharine Hepburn climbs a dinosaur skeleton, it's so much fun!
Sabrina - The leads are all wonderful, esp. Humphey Bogart playing against type.
Doc Hollywood - I just find it so enjoyable, the quilt-dream part and the piggy stick in my mind. And Michael J Fox is great in it.

The only roscommon I could ever stomach was Practical Magic.

Favorites: Annie Hall, the Quiet Man and Coming to America (but NOT the dumb sequel!)
other than those I really dislike the genre, I find most of them neither romantic nor funny.

A Midsummer Night's Dream. Yes, by today's standards it's exceedingly problematic. It's also wildly complicated and funny, and I love the weird-but-familiar atmosphere, and I can almost hear the Brummie accents of the mechanicals (Brummie/Worcs person myself.) I did a chart of it once, to analyse it for a U3A. I used a dozen or so different colours, and there were arrows swooshing about all over the place; then I did a similar chart of a modern rom-com, and it looked positively staid in comparison.

I actually drafted a script for a reimagining of Midsummer Night's Dream a decade ago. By setting it in Miami in 2007, I actually found an easy way to tackle the more problematic aspects of the original.
