(Anonymous) 2023-04-15 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)OP really does seem to think kudos are the magic currency you put into the internet and get fanfic—-and they want some. If op wants instant gratification, they can post their completed work and it will get more engagement, wether you think that’s how it should be or not.

(Anonymous) 2023-04-15 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)"it’s a huge no no to leave kudos on them because the next update may contain some stuff you don’t approve and then ever after you’re associated with that fic"
Reserve final judgement, fine. But THIS is not that. This is deliberately saying that you ENJOY the work but you REFUSE to say so until you are ASSURED that they will continue to conform to your moral framework. It's the commenter version of what the secret OP is doing. "I won't write anymore until you engage" "I won't engage unless you sign a purity pledge" They're both douches.
I rarely engage with WIPs because I don't like getting invested only for it to never be finished. You don't engage with WIPs because you want it morally vetted first. We are not the same.

(Anonymous) 2023-04-15 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)The majority of people don’t do it because of morals, they do it because WIPs are notorious for starting strong and either fizzling out or turning to senseless shit and people don’t want to be seen endorsing stuff like that.

(Anonymous) 2023-04-16 12:05 am (UTC)(link)I don't leave kudos on WIP because I don't read them. You read a WIP and like it, and don't give kudos because of something that MIGHT happen in the future to avoid......what? Again. Kudos are not: Finite, a magic button to make more fic appear, endorsement for any kind of moral position.
We are not the same.

(Anonymous) 2023-04-16 12:24 am (UTC)(link)People don’t kudos WIPs. Yeah some do but less than half the people that read them. And most people only read completed works. That’s it. That’s all. OP wants kudos? Then they should write something that will attract more readers.

(Anonymous) 2023-04-16 12:43 am (UTC)(link)We have no way of knowing if most people only read completed works. There's absolutely no way to know. There's no way to know if less than half the people that read WIP kudos them. There's NO WAY TO KNOW exactly how many people actually READ the WIP. We don't know how many of the hits are repeat readers. You're saying that because that's what you do, that's what the people around you might do. But you have no way of knowing if that's what MOST people do.
What we do know is that plenty of people kudos WIP. I don't understand where this is coming from, because we have DATA that proves you wrong. There's a mega WIP in my fandom that has 10,068 kudos and 6762 comments. That's 10,068 individual people in ONE fandom that left kudos on ONE WIP. Oh look, I just reloaded it and now it has 10,118 kudos.
