Depends on which section of CHristianity you talk to. Some of the more extremist/fundamentalist versions do believe the Bible was basically dictated by God word for word, just written down by whoever wrote the book.

My understanding was that it was more like "God supernaturally prevented them from writing anything untrue"

But yeah like I say there's a million different ways of interpreting the Bible and I'm sure there are some people who think it was actually dictated by God. just not a very mainstream view.
