So much of the architecture in my city is brutalist (it's not a city you would expect that from) so I'm quite fond of it, honestly.

Another hot take: it ages way better than a lot of new designs.

One of the libraries in the system where I work is Brutalist and I would cheerfully dynamite it. Awful building.

I had no idea what Brutalism was and had to Google. And... well, all right then. Definitely a different strokes thing, because the buildings I saw were either impressive but not attractive to me, or they looked like a prison block. The image photo is nice, though. But that's more to do with the books and furniture.

Anyway. As any architecture brutalism and international architecture have their lows. But also they have their loveliest buildings. And they do work so beautifully with greenery. Architecture should work with other things!
My country doesn't have a lot of brutalist architecture even though people who don't know anything about architecture think we do. But a lot of glass and concrete buildings are beautiful and comfortable and I love being in them. And a lot of are shitty and cold. Shocker.
Never been to UK so I don't know how comfortable its brutalist buildings to be in, but they are gorgeous to look at. And they never burned like a fucking candlesticks.

I agree that brutalism can be done well, and one bonus is that it's quite easy to make accessible. The problem is that it's rarely done well and you end up with an ugly concrete box hostile to human habitation with maybe one weird angle to try to make it interesting.

I really hate it but do acknowledge that I’ve never seen a good example in person, only hundreds of bad ones. But I also think that not one good example in literal hundreds is reason enough to implode all publicly owned/funded brutalist buildings.
