I'm probably going to be up all night now trying to think of the perfect answer. But offhand, I'm gonna say the first writing of the Bible. Because it didn't just appear out of nowhere.

Well, you'll be taking a long time - the bible was written in bits and pieces over hundreds of years by many different authors. And edited by others. And compiled by others still.

Skip to any part that was supposedly dictated by God. I want to know what really happened.

You'll most likely find a mate making shit up many years after the fact. Or, for parts where God is only speaking to one person, possibly a dude in a trance (ie most likely hallucinating/ having a psychotic break)

I don't think there are any parts of the Bible that are held to be directly dictated by God? I mean, it's possible, because there are a lot of different interpretations of the Bible. But I think even the people who adopt really literal readings of the Bible generally hold that the Bible was directly inspired by God but not dictated by God.

I think the Koran is held to have been directly dictated by God, so you could try that, I guess.

It would also be really interesting to see anything from Jesus' actual ministry, because the sources we have for what he actually did and preached are not what you would call ideal.

Depends on which section of CHristianity you talk to. Some of the more extremist/fundamentalist versions do believe the Bible was basically dictated by God word for word, just written down by whoever wrote the book.

My understanding was that it was more like "God supernaturally prevented them from writing anything untrue"

But yeah like I say there's a million different ways of interpreting the Bible and I'm sure there are some people who think it was actually dictated by God. just not a very mainstream view.

The books of the Bible were written over a period of several hundred years....
