A question

(Anonymous) 2023-04-18 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
I had a strong burst of inspiration today, and I was thinking about writing it up and posting it on ao3 but then I was overcome by a powerful wave of anxiety and fear because way back in the past I've gotten hate and been made fun of for stuff I posted

Would it be a bad idea to post my idea for original work magic school stories on ao3 or would I just be asking for mockery?

Do it. Fuck the haters.

AYRT

Yeah I suppose that is a healthier outlook.

It is very easy for me to say that. It's harder to actually do it, of course, but I do absolutely stand by what I said. Share your work. If people don't like it, that's their problem. Fuck 'em if they try to make it yours.

I'm sorry that happened to you, that must make it hard to relax and have fun with what you're doing. But, my perspective, you're the person creating something and putting it out there for others to enjoy if they want to, and the others are just wasting their time on Earth being miserable to others. I hope you can keep sharing what you write, don't let the bastards grind you down.

Do the thing!

And if it's making you anxious then post it under a new account and moderate the comments.

Mind is always playing tricks on me and I read this as 'magic school bus stories' and here I was just nodding at the possibilities.

Share your work or don't, it doesn't matter one way or the other so long as you yourself enjoyed writing it. Is there a chance you might get flamed for your story? Yeah. It comes with the territory of sharing anything online. Or offline for that matter. There is always a degree of courage involved with making art.

I think you should write it!

If you're still feeling worried when you're done, you can...

- Add the fic to an Anonymous Collection so your name doesn't show
- Disable commenting

And I hope it works out well for you, yeah?

If people picked on you before, choose a new AO3 identity for this!

I do read original works there. Just use good tags so people can find it by tropes or things related to your stories.

AYRT update

Thanks to all the support I got!

I think I'm going to do it under an alt, and tag it with something related to "magical school" along with "original work"

I have a lot of social anxiety posting online, but with ao3 I have two accounts with one that's pretty much for posting works anonymously (before that I used to post and immediately orphan, but with posting to the anon collection you can reply to any comments left on your fic and can take it down or un-anon it at a later time).
