I guess I don’t see the appeal in stringing someone along who you don’t commit to. It makes me think of M Butterfly, where the guy deliberately ignores his love interest because it turns him on to think she needs him more than he needs her. (Then it turns out he’s the one who truly needs his imagined version of her.)
