Sometimes one of the two love interests is bland as beige and the other is absolutely beautiful but eats puppies and I'm always disappointed in my hope of a single and happy protag.
Sometimes both LIs have personalities, unlike the protagonist, and I'll ship them together instead.
But the rarest experience I ever have, reading or watching these things, is feeling genuinely conflicted along with the protagonist.
