Which, oh look, is true for every socialist country in history. Surprise. It's almosts as if socialism isn't possible without oppression.
And no, social democracies are not actually socialism, they're a mix. If you're talking about true socialism, it ain't working, never has, never will. There's a reason a positive version only exists in theoretical utopias.

this is generally just sort of a fruitless conversation to have because 90% of the conversation is spent just nailing down exactly what is meant by 'socialism'

but i do think at the point where you're no-true-scotsmaning social democracy out of the picture, you've probably reached a point where the way that you are defining the words you are using is no longer helping you understand the situation

Socialism is socialism and a social democracy is a social democracy. There's not one true Scotsman here, they are different from each other as true socialism basically negates any option for democracy. And it still doesn't change that every socialist state has failed and/or turned into a dictatorship.
