And sometimes the fact that the ship is messy/creepy is what makes it so interesting in the first place! Let's face it, ships that are happy and have no conflict just aren't as interesting to watch/read about as ships that DO have conflict.

Yeah, I do read plenty of smut for my OTPs, but most of it isn't PWP because I don't only care about making two (or more) hot characters bang. I want to know how fucked up they are all the time, not just when they're fucking.

From the morality police perspective, my fave ships and reasons I ship them may be worse than just "yay for porn."

I want to see fucked up characters who've murdered, tortured, gaslit, extorted, imprisoned, sacrificed others for their own ends, been capricious hateful assholes, etc, learn to love and be happy with ray of sunshine (almost always way younger, for bonus hdu) partners who are only "normal" by comparison with the insanely fucked up headcases I ship them with.

I mean, I like a certain degree of "fucked up murderous bastard takes first wobbly baby steps towards atonement and being a better person," too.

But for some kinds of moral crusader, the list of acceptable ships (and acceptable entertainment in general) gets shorter every day as more and more reasons to condemn peoples' taste in fiction get pulled out of the ether/their collective uptight ass.

It's all fiction, ffs, why can't they use all that righteous anger to cover oil exec's lawns six feet deep in single use plastic, or break single day records for donations to Planned Parenthood or a local food bank, or pick up trash at the beach/river/lake, or, idk, write the morally pure fic of their blandest imaginings? I don't get it.

I've had and have "problematic" ships I hate, too. The most I've ever done about them is post on FS that I hate them because I think they suck; I can't imagine crusading to force people who ship my NOTPs to stop, and I have no clue what their rl tastes are, only that out taste in fiction(al couples) clash.
