I mean, i don't think they ever intended for you to hate him. I'm not overly fond of the MCU writing in general, because it's ethics are wishy-washy as fuck, so the vibe I got was that they wanted you to think think he was on the wrong side of ethics for understandable and even sympathetic reasons, but not irredeemable and I was right lbr
