This is an incredibly bizarre approach that sounds more like the result of several fake unwritten rules crashing together into a terrifying trainwreck.

... wouldn't say it makes you a dick per se, but it's weird.

Yeah. I wouldn't be real happy if I found out that the comments someone had been leaving were not based on actually reading the fic in question, but just some kind of formality of a carrot they thought I was insisting that they dangle in front of me.

And if you don't want to engage back with comments, either... just don't, or turn off commenting (or turn it off until you're finished, whatever your preference is) if even getting the notifications stresses you out that much?
