(Anonymous) 2023-04-22 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)Those people aren’t everywhere in the same way as the people complaining about superhero movies being shoved down their throats, or the people complaining about those people who are sick of superhero movies because they still like them.
I’m sure people who “pretend that liking superhero movies is still nerd culture” are still very much around in big numbers, but they’re not really as omnipresent as the others. It feels more anecdotal to find them everywhere. Maybe it’s also anecdotal to not find them everywhere, but I almost never hear people saying that or complaining about that compared to people just complaining about the movies or complaining about people complaining about the movies.
And this is just a nitpick on my part, but as much as they’ve become mainstream too, superhero movies are still kind of nerd culture. A lot of nerdy people still enjoy them(although obviously not all nerds do), and they started out as a nerd culture thing more than anything else. I know that some people think that nerd culture and mainstream culture can never overlap, but I disagree. I think that it honestly feels a bit gatekeepy to say that superhero movies are no longer nerd culture, like you can’t be a nerd and still like them. I’m sure that’s not what you’re actually saying, but that’s how it feels to me.

(Anonymous) 2023-04-22 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)I just can't agree about nerd culture. I don't think that nerds liking something = it's a a nerd thing. I think right now it's more a mainstream thing that some nerds like.

(Anonymous) 2023-04-22 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)It sucks that superheroes have taken over so much that it was that hard for your niece to get her pirate toys, that is frustrating. I like superheroes, but having just one kind of thing be so front and center every place you look is way past overkill.
