toy help

(Anonymous) 2023-04-23 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm looking for a runner copperhead snake toy, in the UK. I'm having trouble finding one because Amazon sellers just tag their rubber snakes with every fucking snake species under the sun. Does anyone here know where I can buy a rubber copperhead snake toy, in the UK?

That is the closest I see on UK Amazon.

This one is on the US one.

Aww shit! There's an entire company (I think I Oregon or Washington) that specializes in gag gifts, and I think they might have what you're looking for?

https://mcphee.com/collections/rubber-chickens

They may perhaps, have what you're looking for. Give me a minute and I'll check some of the science class stores.

Books you want adapted

[personal profile] philstar22 2023-04-23 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
What are some books that you'd like to see being adapted, whether they've never been adapted before or just haven't had a good one yet?

IIRC, they're working on a Chronicles of Amber TV series right now, and I'm really really excited about it. Not only is it a great TV series, but it seems really well suited to TV, and also it has a really specific subgenre and aesthetic appeal that I absolutely love and that feels really absent in pop culture right now.

I'd love to see a Wayward Children TV series. An October Daye or Incrypted series would be cool, too. The Scholomance trilogy could make for a cool series of movies, as would the Janitors of the Post-Apocalypse, and I'd give my right arm for a good adaptation of Monstrous Regiment.

Also, I just read this book called "An Elderly Lady is Up to No Good" that would make for a hilarious movie or mini-series. I want to see the penis-sculpture murder on the big screen, dammit!

Oh shit, a really good version of Monstrous Regiment would be amazing not to mention it would also probably be great for my Polly/Mal agenda

Robert Heinlein's Friday. It's problematic though (sexual violence and like, a really bad resolution there letting the bad guy completely off the hook), so I doubt it'll happen. The rest of the story is just so good! They could leave that part out or alter it.

I would say Death by Gaslight by Michael Kurland except there are a couple of characters in that book that I think could only by played by specific actors who are unfortunately dead.
also, I have seen many, many versions of Alice in Wonderland and not one did the book justice.

I think I would like to see something like the Thursday Next by Jasper Fforde or MYTH Inc by Robert Asprin being adapted. I think either could be alot of fun.

Mistress of the Art of Death. No magic, historical (middle ages), low stakes (no world ending shit), just good old murder mysteries solved using real science by a lady doctor who does not give two shits about misogynistic superstitions.

I'd love a well done adaptation of one of the Grady Hendrix books. Especially The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires or How To Sell A Haunted House.

The Third Eye by Lois Duncan - I also really like Down a Dark Hall and they apparently did a movie in 2018, but it doesn't look like something I'd like to watch
The Reluctant Widow by Georgette Heyer (or Cotillion or Faro's Daughter) - really there are about fifteen of her Regency romances I would love to see as movies
The Man from the Train by Bill James - it's non-fiction, so I'd be okay with a documentary, but I think it could make for an interesting and terrifying movie

Asimov's The Caves of Steel, The Naked Sun and The Robots of Dawn. With aaaalll of the subtext between Elijah and Daneel as per the books, and none of the creepy "romance" between Elijah and Gladia who is not as attractive a character as Asimov thought. A happy ending for Jessie too, please.

The Wall of Winnipeg and Me, if only to see how many people's heads explode at a male lead who both plays football and is vegan.

The Murderbot Diaries, but only if they make good use of the multiple screens, rewind and slow-mo features, and occasional scenes of Rise of Sanctuary Moon.

Mercedes Lackey Joust series... egypt... dragons. CGI might have to get a little cheaper.

Timothy Zahn's Conqueror's trilogy. You might have to work it with different seasons for each side, with a third finally bringing it all together.

A.C. Crispin's Han Solo trilogy. I know Disney doesn't want to b/c it's Legends EU... but it makes SO MUCH sense when you watch A New Hope after you read it.

Brigg's Hurog stuff. That way I can get more of it. It's even kind of grim dark.

Rosemary Sutcliff's The Shining Company.

The main plot is solid - Prosper joining the warband, and growing up a bit, and realising he's desperately in love with his cousin but also his friend/bondsman is Even More desperately in love and what do? And also the, uh, the ending.

But it's also got plenty of room for side stories with the minor characters that appeared, and I'd love to see someone who loved the book take the time to bring it to life.

The Queen's Thief series has been optioned and I want it badly even though I know casting is going to be a mess.
