Yeah, this. Are there times when cruelty to animals is actually part of the story for whatever reason? Yes. Does that mean I like it? No. Same way I don't like any number of other bad things in my movies but sometimes they do serve an important purpose.

Bonus points for karma kicking the perpetrator's butt by the end of the movie though :p.
