Agreed. Deliberately misusing a word you know is contentious, for the purpose of provocative discord, is a very clear example of trolling.

Sure. If you go around calling troll with the specific intent of sewing discord, while not actually believing your own accusations, then yeah, you're right, that is another example of trolling.

But how do you know everyone who misuses the word does so deliberately? Maybe they're just as confused an secret!OP.

We can never know these things for sure (unless the troll admits to it, which rarely happens). But the same can be said of most instances of trolling. If the person is speaking in earnest, then it's not trolling, yet we all have a threshold where we become comfortable with assuming they are not speaking in earnest. *shrug*
