Who are some characters you think are overrated? Either they aren't good or they are decent, just not as amazing as fandom would generally say.

Loki.

Stiles from Teen Wolf. I liked him alright but boy did fandom run with that one until he was barely recognizable.

Oh man, yes. Loki can be fun. But he's overrated, and turning him into a full-on hero is annoying. Especially when they go back and rewrite things that happened before to woobify him. In canon. Frustrating.

His character arc would have been so good if he had actually died in that one Thor movie. Coming back to life just kind of made him an annoying cartoon character.

I haven't watched any of the tv shows - did they totally change his canon? Are the Loki stans loving it?

They've basically made it canon, as I understand it, that he was completely brainwashed by Thanos and never wanted to do any of the evil things apart from what he did in the first movie.

Omg that's hilarious.

Honestly, I don't mind the "Loki was brainwashed in Avengers" line, because he wasn't doing very Loki things in that movie - it mostly wasn't trickster stuff, it was brute force. But they still should let him be an asshole.

Yeah, I'm fine with the brainwashed-by-Thanos theory, but Loki in his first movie tried to commit genocide, and it's important not to forget that.

Agreed on Stiles.

Willow. She was never as cute as fandom seems to think she was, or as sad, or as deep.

I was re-watching Buffy lately and sadly this can be said for the whole show. It really hasn't aged well. (Or maybe it's me that hasn't' aged well.) I find myself yelling at Xander a lot in particular.

Yeah, there's a lot that makes me wince. But I still enjoy bits of it, and Anya, and Spike, and Tara. And actually, Buffy *more* now that upon first viewing it.

I actually found Anya kind of annoying when I originally watched it but now she's hands down one of my favorites. And Tara! Oh Tara, you deserved better. I admit I hated her for "taking Oz's place" but on rewatch I love her so much.

It's definitely still fun, I just learned that I didn't need a completionist rewatch, I ended up skipping around hand having a lot of fun.

I never much liked Oz and Willow as a couple; she was just too...'omg, here's my bf, everybody admire me for having this bf'...I dunno. Just rubbed me the wrong way.
ALL THE TARA FIXITS!! She was done so dirty.

Yeah, I just hop from fav ep to fav ep and enjoy it that way.

Ugh, Xander. But I've never liked him.

Early Willow was very, very cute.

I agree that she's a somewhat overrated character though. Her character really doesn't hang together over the show as a whole. And she can be a real asshole sometimes in ways that the show doesn't seem to quite get.

I have to admit she got on my nerves from episode one; it was this 'omg, look how quirky and cute she is!!!' vibe that made me recoil, because i didn't really find her either.

SUCH an asshole.

I love it when she's an asshole, tbh.

Honestly when I first watched it I just appreciated having a female nerd character for once. I didn't like her as much later on, though I didn't dislike her either. But I love her in the first couple seasons.

I have to admit that some of my annoyance with Willow is second hand because it led to about a decade of every show that had a similar “nerdy/quirky/but secretly the coolest” girl character making them do a version of that damn baby voice.

he was great in small doses, and the best use of him was his early appearances like school hard and lovers walk when he would roll in, FUCK UP EVERYTHING and roll out again

but christ he was abysmal when they tried to shoehorn him as the show's male lead
