(Anonymous) 2023-05-02 01:45 am (UTC)(link)But good lord they whiffed it. His ending is infuriating and incoherent.
What would I prefer, given the givens? Either he gives s goodbye speech to Sam&Bucky and then disappears into the timestream OR he's injured in the fight and is going to pretend to be dead to keep fighting the good fight without all the Captain America expectations weighing him down. And then we occasionally hear mentions that he's doing a sit-in for disability rights during FatWS.
FUCK IM STILL MAD D=

(Anonymous) 2023-05-02 04:38 am (UTC)(link)In my heart of hearts, my absolutely ideal AU, he'd get de-serumed (by channeling power through mjolnir? IDK) and he'd walk off into the sunset to change the world that way. Blah blah blah full circle. Blah blah blah he's helped change the world enough that you don't need perfect muscles and super punches to change things. Blah blah blah he accepts his situation and doesn't even try to get re-serumed but he's 100% ready to throw! The! Fuck! Down! for justice. It's just that Sam and Bucky are going to run a full media blackout to keep him from jumping in-front of a bullet or whatever. And I think even Disney could take a pro-disability rights stance because then they don't have to talk about class. Or race. Or religion. Or worker's rights. Or sexuality. Or gender. Or really anything that would piss off a focus group or risk their corporate dominance.
Also they wouldn't even need Chris Evans as a body double!
But whatever. MCU doesn't know where he is. He could be on the moon, who cares. God. I used to love the MCU with an (honestly unhealthy) fervor. Now I'll see a fan theory on Reddit and I just. don't. care. Theorizing about the next movie? Who cares. The writers probably weren't allowed to see the previous one before they wrote this one. The actors don't know what's going on. The only way to enjoy them is to REFUSE to remember things.
Sorry I lost so many threads here I should take up cross stitch.

(Anonymous) 2023-05-02 04:32 am (UTC)(link)But yours might be better, especially given his background. One of the things I think people forget, is the reality that Steve grew up with. Back then, eugenics was a legitimate science, held in esteem by just about all educated people, including the doctors Steve went to when he was sick. In other words, preserum Steve would have grown up hearing about his inherent inferiority and how the world would be a better place without him in it.
There's no way that didn't affect him. It may be why Steve's such a rule-breaking little mothereffer in the first place; he has firsthand experience that the best and brightest, can be horribly horribly wrong. Ableism is something he's personally experienced, so having him become an advocate against it would make sense.

(Anonymous) 2023-05-02 04:41 am (UTC)(link)It's complicated, there's a lot to unpack, there's a lot of history, but I think it's a rich vein to mine.
(They just HAD to wrap everything up in a little bow because they clearly had NO IDEAS what would be coming next and they didn't want to commit to anything. ::RAGE::)
