This is (one reason) why The X-Files was so great.

I mean, this is a commentary on whose word is taken as true, and I do like it when the guy then gets eaten. And there's some horror movies where the guy isn't white and he does see things and gets dismissed. But yes, I would also like to see more men in this position!

I don't watch a lot of horror so don't really think about these tropes too much, but the idea of it being a commentary on whose word is taken as true...I like it. Interesting concept.

This.

Also more horror when the female who sees things does NOT have mental health issues. Too many times it's put down to "she's off her meds" or "she has a history of mental illness".

I dunno, that can be funny. There's this one horror game called The Chrono Jotter where the main character is like "You see the monsters too?" (paraphrasing) and her love interest is like "Yes, they're real, even though no one else sees them." "So you see the bugs crawling on me?" "No, sorry."

As someone who suffers from the same type of hallucinations (I see/hear flies or mosquitoes IT'S SO ANNOYING), this is actually hilarious!

Oh yeah, that trope sucks!

More often than not, if the dude is the one "seeing things" the big twist at the end is that he was actually the killer lol

Like Final Destination?
Or Fright Night?
Or Jaws 2?
Or An American Werewolf in London?
Or Rear Window?

Wow. 5 whole movies. 3 of which are not crap.

I think it's because situations like that tend to mirror our IRL society's habit to dismiss women's concerns. With the cultural shift to question how patriarchy harms all of us, including boys, men and positive masculinity, I would also like to see horror films tackle mental health and life's horrors from more than one perspective.
