Tease/prude is practically the oldest pairing type in the book.

THAT is why I don't like it. I'm not a huge fan of that cliché.

Um. Where do I start?

First off, the fact that their personality archetypes might fit into some prearranged romance cliche doesn't mean that they, personally, have any chemistry together. I know this is an unfavorable viewpoint in fandom, but character interactions have a lot more to do with a relationship between two people than their labeled character traits.

As well, the Prowl-as-prude thing is complete fanon, I've seen plenty of fics where he's actually quite kinky. Jazz as a tease is also complete fanon, since his laid-back personality has nothing to do with his attitudes towards sex (which we do not see in canon, for obvious reasons).

And besides THAT, while "Odd Couple" setups may be the oldest ones in the book, that doesn't mean they'll work. In fact, it makes it all the harder for them to work, and the result might very well be one person getting frustrated with the other and telling them to shove off.

I've always found Prowl/Jazz very boring for exactly this reason. They're reduced down to single character trait and forced together in complete denial of any other traits they have, simply because the prude/tease dynamic pings some kind of fangirl kink button. It's stupid, and it's bad writing.

I think it's more of people not getting why it's popular more than not getting the ship itself. Personally, it's just too overdone for me nowadays, and that a lot of the fanfic out there is really bland and lacking that possible chemistry -- especially since a lot of people tend to not write Prowl very well. A lot of the basis for P/J is fanon. Certain people just need actual canon interaction (All Hail Megatron is the only example that comes to mind for me) or, as

mecteol said, don't like that cliché. *shrug* Preferences are preferences.

I'd might "get" it more if I'd ever, in my entire time in TF fandom, seen it written convincingly and IC. :\ I've seen more convincing Sunstreaker*Cosmos than I have Jazz*Prowl.

What's worse is that a lot of fic assumes that it's there, without giving any reason for it to be-- and while the authors might be convinced it's the perfect pairing and automatic win, but having it dropped on you like that when you're not convinced is rather like going "oh hey BTW here's Unicron knitting a tea cosy for his BFF Blackarachnia :D" without explaining why. Not only do you have no idea how the relationship even happened, you don't know how the characters got so OOC, either.

Also, I'm not convinced it's not partially because of the pretty/bishie. :\ There's a lot of TF characters I'd hit-in-the-sexy-way, and a lot of pairings based on prettiness factor. (Explain to me why Prowl*Bumblebee is more popular in TFA fandom than Bumblebee*Bulkhead without saying anything about how the former is prettier to look at, or that Bulkhead isn't pretty enough.)

And because Bulkhead in a pairing brings about certain...logistical problems, even if I do ship it a bit.

What, aside from being a giant alien robot in a kid's cartoon? <3 Just means you have to be inventive, is all~ (And there's certainly less size difference between Bulky and his teammates than there is between his teammates and any given Decepticon, with the exception of, like, Swindle. Yet when has that ever stopped anyone from writing Optimus*Megatron, or Bumblebee*Everyone Ever Jesus H Christ onna Whole-grain Cracker?)

Bulkhead's kinda round, though. Not as elegant as Megatron or Starscream, which might actually lead to the writer having to not write them as people-analogues.

With so many more possibilities that are far more plausible, why do we have to 'get it'?

I don't know. I like the pairing, but I think people can ship whatever they want.
Start shipping a pairing that very few people in the fandom ship at all, and maybe you'll understand better that you just have to accept it when people ship other things and like them better than your OTP.

I've come to the conclusion that "I don't get it" is usually polite fanspeak for "I personally don't like it."

Which is fair. Just as people who like Prowl/Jazz don't need to feel obliged to defend their pairing tastes, neither do people who are on the opposite side of the fence need to defend why they dislike this pairing.

There are people who don't get this couple? I can't browse deviantart without finding a picture of them making out. I figured everybody liked them together. Whoops.

herongale said it pretty well... I think your F-List friends are just being polite when they say, "I don't get it." rather than, "I don't like it."

I imagine some people don't like it for exactly this reason-- they're not into it, and can't go two feet without running into three drawings and a fic where it's the main subject. XD It's enough to frustrate anyone who'd really rather look at things about Cliffjumper or Powerglide or a non-G1 continuity. (I swear, there's more Jazz*Prowl fic and art than fic/art for the entire Unicron trilogy.)

Yeah, that's kinda why I'm rather uninterested in it. I just kinda didn't realize I was the only one till this post. XD

I just want more Tracks. :3 But Cliffjumper and Powerglide are pretty fab too.
