I thought they were all right together. Certainly not my favorite, but it was all right.

It always surprises me when people like them together, though. I'm okay with just about any pairing, but I was kind of under the impression that JKR tried to make Viktor/Hermione, Harry/Cho, and Ron/Lavender as [reasonably] unappealing as possible.

I really liked Ron/Lavender, though, to be honest. It was silly but kind of stupidly cute. While it was obvious it wasn't going to work out, I was kind of bummed about it anyway, so I see where you're coming from.

Really? I always thought she portrayed Harry/Ginny in just as silly a light as Harry/Cho, and I shipped both. I just thought Harry was terrible at relationships. Plus Viktor and Hermione were both really happy together and then broke up because of the long distance and Ron/Lavender was pretty much a regular first relationship imo, I didn't think any of the portrayals were particularly negative. I mean maybe Ron dated Lavender for the wrong reasons, but they were happy for a while and then they weren't which is typical with 16 year olds.

I just thought Harry was terrible at relationships.

I think they were both portrayed in a silly light, but in very different ways. Harry/Cho was a relationship in which Harry was... well, yeah, terrible at relationships. It looked hopeless from the beginning and Cho was (in my opinion) set up to be not a very appealing character. Harry was exploring his first real romantic feelings with someone he thought was pretty. With Harry/Ginny, he was exploring a relationship in which he was actually interested in Ginny and knew her well. It was kind of silly and awkward sometimes, but in a promising, oh-isn't-that-adorably-awkward way. I was kind of conflicted on what to think of Hermione's view of their relationship. Sometimes she seemed to really like him--like being excited to go visit him in the summer--and other times it just seemed like she was trying to make Ron jealous.

I don't think they were portrayed as terrible relationships, just relationships that obviously weren't going to work out in the long run. In addition to that, New Character/Old character relationships sometimes seem out of the blue. There was not a lot of established substance to those relationships, as opposed to Ron/Hermione or Harry/Ginny. As far as Ron and Lavender's relationship is concerned, I think the main reason that might be unappealing to many is Lavender's character. I think she's hilarious, but her character type is usually not a popular one (I don't think it is, at least).

Of course, I'm probably not the right person to say any of that... honestly, I'm not a huge fan of Harry/Ginny or Ron/Hermione. I like 'em all right, but I kind of prefer Ron/Lavender and slightly Viktor/Hermione.
