Changing your attitude IS the best thing you can do when you offend someone, I agree. Unfortunately, there are a lot of douchebags out there who refuse to do so out of a misguided sense of entitlement, and will lash out at you for being offended. The best thing to do in that case, however much you may want things to change, is to not let those attacks get to you and to avoid them whenever possible.
