What shows did you abandon and why?

Umbrella Academy

(Anonymous) 2023-05-04 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
First season was fun, I had hopes for season 2 and made it all the way through, and just was frustrated or apathetic to season 3 for a couple of episodes and then just...never went back.

I hated season 2 so much I've dropped it half way.
I slugged through season 3 but the whole Alison's arc was so icky I dropped it too. Also as long as I am aware they never addressed her SAing Luther. Ick ick ick
First season was solid though

So many shows growing up. I think because you could only watch them live on TV so I would just forget they were airing. Dead Zone, Prison Break, Smallville, Dexter, 24 (though I actually watched like...season 4 of this).

Then some shows I just gave up on when they got bad. Like The Walking Dead, Supernatural, X-Files, and Scrubs.

I tried watching 24 but then it left Netflix. :(

I know someone whose favorite season of Scrubs is the last one which is just... insane to me.

I liked Downton Abbey but I ragequit over a certain car accident.

I WISH I had stopped there.

There are very few shows I've watched all the way through

Supernatural after season 7 because I hated 6 and 7.

House after season 6 I think. Bones, can't remember when exactly, but it wasn't soon enough.

Season 7 was definitely the nadir of the show for me.

I still wouldn't recommend any of the seasons after it but god, Season 7 was brutal.

IMHO the only good House seasons were 1-3, after that I was just watching because I wanna have sex with Hugh Laurie

Claws. It just got too dumb.

The Equalizer (starring Queen Latifa). Again, just got dumb/a little too unbelievable but I love QL's character.

Lost - They were never going to explain the monsters
Dexter - Got bored
Smallville - Writers would ignore plot or character continuity between episodes
NCIS - Got bad
Supernatural - Plot of an episode in the 1st season was offensively bad and I had other things I could be watching
House - Got bored
Criminal Minds - The writing in the season after the writers strike broke continuity
Star Trek: Voyager - Kes was fucking annoying
X-Files - I think towards the end even the writers forgot what was going on
Sherlock - Got bored
Torchwood - Bad writing
Heros - Season 2 was a mess
Angel - Got bored

There are probably more, but this is all I could think of off the top of my head.

NCIS, House, Criminal Minds as well
Oh I guess I also stopped watching the X-Files, I just... like, stopped counting some of the later seasons as 'real' in my mind alsjdsakdj

Torchwood and Angel as well, Smallville, Lost... yeah, same hat on a lot of these. Sherlock I was just so offended by how bad it was and how they didn't understand Sherlock Holmes... I might have dropped Heroes as well.

I never started Dexter and only caught occasional eps of Voyager back in the day.

Criminal Minds went on for so long I don't know how anyone could have kept watching it.

I stayed on House for a lot longer than a lot of people; I only lost it around the time Lin Manuel Miranda showed up as a rapping mental patient, I think. God that was dumb. I think the show was pretty watchable all the way up until Kal Penn left though.

Glee... because I got too busy with work. Hahahaha, silver linings.

As I said in the thread Stranger Things. I loved season 1 and I was nostalgic somehow for the 80s even though I am not American and I was small in the 80s. But season 2 was such a let down.

I quit watching Grey's Anatomy because I thought it was too depressing... after the third season. I can't imagine things have gotten any LESS depressing in the sixteen seasons after that.

Arrow/Legends/Flash from Arrow season 4ish onwards when they changed writers/directors.
Legends was still great campy fun imo even after the arrow fiasco.

Downton Abbey in mid season 4? or was it 5? When they started to recycle the "old Butler Bates is a Criminal! Oh No He's Not After All!" storylines.

B99 after the cancellation/undoing the cancellation

many many netflix series which i quit halfway through season 1

Rebels (Star Wars). I'd selectively watched the episodes of The Clone Wars cartoon that contained Maul and Savage, before, and was considering watching the ones with significant Palpatine screentime, but when they definitively killed off Maul, that was it. I don't care about any of the heroes. They bore me. And the SW villains Disney's managed to squeeze out seem dreadfully contrived and uninspired, so when they executed the last of my favorites (after the decade and some that it took for fandom's "bring. Maul. Back. To. Life ..." to lead to any new canon featuring him) they cut my last tie to the franchise.

Lost – after Season 1, killed off a character I liked and it didn’t seem like they were going in a direction I wanted to follow
Supernatural – after Season 4, just seemed like they were too far away from what I started watching for
Grey’s Anatomy – after Season 17, finally got tired of dealing with the drama/trauma of it
NCIS – somewhere in Season 16, just found that I didn’t much care about the characters or the cases anymore
Buffy the Vampire Slayer – somewhere in the beginning of Season 6, felt like it got too depressing then
That ‘70s Show – after Season 7, Eric left
The Mentalist – after Season 5, fed up with the whole Red John thing by then
The O.C. – early Season 2, though I liked the characters, their relationship drama just got tedious
Criminal Minds – early Season 12, Alvez rubbed me the wrong way and then the whole thing with Thomas Gibson and I was done
ER – Season 8 maybe, I don’t really remember when or why I stopped watching
Chuck – some time in Season 3, it just felt like a different show
Hawaii Five-0 – after Season 9, Season 10 just didn’t sound like something I wanted to watch
Blue Bloods – after Season 10, just a lot of things that started out slightly grating built up over time so that watching became an exercise in irritation and I gave up

I'm pretty sure Buffy only had 5 seasons.

At this point, it would be easier to ask me which shows I didn't abandon. I'm seriously terrible at watching them - I just... never get interested enough to continue, mostly past the second or third episode. And I feel so bad about it because my friends all watched them and talk about them and I kinda feel pressured to continue them just to be able to talk about them but I can't be bothered.
