Re: air fryers

More of a small convection oven, with active air circulation.

Anyway, I found one of the air fryer lids for an instant pot at a Goodwill (!) and the company sent me the fryer basket for free (!!-- especially since I was ready and willing to pay). It's great for reheating frozen fried fish.

Re: What has been your favorite fandom to be in?

BBC Sherlock, because there was an almost limitless amount of content, a lot of it was excellent, and a very substantial percentage of it was to my taste. And for the first several years that I was in the Sherlock fandom, it was also really fun. People were extremely passionate, and there was no such thing as "too weird," and the balance between "taking it seriously" and "not taking it seriously" was ideal.

Sadly that balance got lost over time, and the fandom went into decline, and things got very wanky. But for me none of that negates the years of tremendous fun I had with it.

I fell into my first slash OTP in 30 years of being in fandom last year; it's Dream/Hob from The Sandman. I'd read the comics years ago and come out loving the canon but shipping nothing.

The show ups the stakes on their relationship significantly but so far Hob only shows up in half of episode 6, if you want to watch just the one episode and see if you like the characters. If you watch only two episodes, make them one and six.

If the show continues to follow the comics Hob will have more to do later including (massive spoilers for the end of the series.)

Here's a couple of my favorite fics:

Re: Las Vegas

I've been to Vegas a couple times, mostly with family. TBH I've always been a little iffy on it as someone who's mostly a non-gambler (I'll bet on sports sometimes but not table games).

The main attraction for me is the shows, which are very good. I loved Penn and Teller and Cirque du Soleil. And there are some good national and state parks and things like that in the area.

But you can only see so many shows in a given day and the rest of the time I'm like.... now what? Also, maybe this is just me, but I often find walking around the strip very weird and kind of alienating, especially if you're not gambling or partying. It's so OTT and so much spectacle and so money-driven and gambling-centric.

You might like it though! Plenty of my friends love it. Just not my scene.

Yeah, I'd have to see what all to do. I am not a huge gambler (we have casinos where I live). So gambling isn't a forbidden thing to me like it is for some tourists.

I made it through three books in a year where I was doing a lot of waiting around at airports. That was more than enough for me. There are some interesting concepts in the books but most of the characters are quite flat, and I think the TV show is doing a great job at plucking out the relevant parts and making them actually good.

(Anonymous) 2023-05-05 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
If you are in any way a Rosamund Pike fan YES watch this show. She's fantastic.

I got into the choose-your-own adventure series Markiplier in Space that's available on Youtube, same with the other series A Date/Heist with Markiplier.
However the 'first' in the series is a four part video Who Killed Markiplier (which isn't a choose your own and can just be watched, same with Markiplier TV and Damien).

I have one! I don't use it much because the basket is huge and takes up 20% of our dishwasher. But everyone else in the house loves it for reheating frozen corn dogs or cooking cauliflower.

(Anonymous) 2023-05-05 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Easily the best part of the show, she eats

(Anonymous) 2023-05-05 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
That's a generous interpretation!

Re: Photos of photo ID?

(Anonymous) 2023-05-05 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe!
My state has an official app where you can put all your info in and it acts as an ID. What separates it from just a picture is ittle animated flower like the holographic bits on a real ID.

I find it interesting that on one hand society is now anti-cop, on the other there's an obsession with truecrime going on. Someone needs to solve these truecrimes, which is the very definition of a police detective. My argument is that crime is always going to happen, hence we are always going to need cops (or people whose job it is to deal with crime).

Does the system need an overhaul? Absolutely! But right now, I see so many people online blanket hating all cops. How does this solve a corrupt system? The emphasis should be on fighting the system and not individual members of the police force imo.

I understand the 'copaganda' aspect of many tv shows. John Oliver did a piece on Law and Order, which discussed this, but also discussed the fantasy/wish fulfilment aspect of such shows ie; SVU- a rape survivor fantasising about a system in which their attacker is bought to justice. People can watch these shows and understand the level of "copaganda" going on, yet still enjoy them.

I just think that there is a lot of black and white thinking going on and not enough of dealing with the true grey areas of life. People can hold two diametrically opposed views in their minds and that should be fine ie;

"I understand there are fundamental issues with the law and order system, particularly in regards to racism and these need to be adressed. Many tv series fail to take these issues into account."

"I love watching cop shows. Yeah, they're copaganda but they're a form of wish fulfilment for me, where the rapists and murderers are always bought to justice."

I liked the asexual aromantic interpretation in the first game, both for Aloy and Elisabet. But Aloy could respond to Avad's flirting in the second game, so I guess that ship has already sailed.

Ace Attorney in general was amazing as far as the bizarro, unhinged nature of the fandom goes. But there were (probably, since it was all anon) a handful of vocal people who clearly wanted me gone, and I didn't have the guts to stand up to them, so I wound up drifting away from it. I miss it.

Tiger and Bunny has been in spirit much the same, and the fandom that I've bumped up against has been really chill and similarly hilarious and weird, but smaller. If there's been any significant drama, I haven't seen it, and if anyone's talking crap about me, it's not where I've stumbled upon it. So I think I gotta go with T&B.

My bff has one, she cooks basically everything in it (she even made a cake!) and absolutely loves it.

We have one at work for the clients, they love to reheat stuff in it (crispy things get crispy!), and to use it for meals without having to deal with oil and the stove. It's pretty fool-proof and easy to use and clean.

I'm contemplating getting one for myself at home.

Haha, I have yet to see her in anything I dislike so yes, her in it is a ringing endorsement!

I've seen Shadowhunters come up a lot, I'll maybe give that a go. I didn't mention them but I did dip my toes in both Teen Wolf and Witcher, you're right about similar dynamics. Don't know anything about Shadowhunters, but I've seen it mentioned here and if it goes with the others then there should be some stuff for me to enjoy. Thank you!

A) Society at large is not anti-cop; probably somewhere from 40-45% of society is anti-cop.
B) "Anti-cop" in this context largely does not mean full-fat police abolitionism.

I have one, I love it! It reheats frozen battered fish and fries so well, I've also done fresh salmon and similar items so far, but I only just got it.

I once had a sex-adjacent dream about a platonic friend, in which he was like 'look if we're going to do this, we have to roleplay as Mario and Luigi', and it threw me for a LOOP because I was like...

First of all, my man ships Bowser/Luigi, second of all, he would NEVER want to roleplay as Mario sexually. Third of all, he's not even bringing up Yoshi eggpreg, so this is a really unrealistic sex dream. Took me right out of it, and then we didn't have sex.

I still can't believe 24 was a thing. Holy shit America went crazy.

(Doonesbury: "At least our prisoners aren't tortured!" "Excuse me?" "Sorry, that used to be a gimme." "It's okay. We're all huge Jack Bauer fans.")

Ohh, I've been intrigued but not enough to actually watch the show. I'll try out ep 6 and see if it grabs me. Thank you!

Re: Las Vegas

(Anonymous) 2023-05-05 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I've been several times and even though I don't gamble, I still really like it. It just has a really cool vibe/energy, and I always like to people watch. If you stay on the strip, you don't need to rent a car because everything is within walking distance. I can't comment on the shows because I've never been to one (although apparently the Beatles Love show is amazing, my parents have been at least 10 times and love it), so for me the main things are shopping and restaurants.

The Miracle Mile mall is pretty cool (https://miraclemileshopslv.com/). It has a fountain in the middle of the mall that has "thunderstorms" like every half an hour or so I think where smoke rises up from the water and the ceiling rains and there's thunder and lightning. It's probably dumb to find it so cool as a grown ass adult but I am easily entertained lol.

If you like burgers, Black Tap (https://blacktap.com/location/vegas/) has awesome ones. They also have these crazy milkshakes that have like, a piece of cake or a donut or something on top of them...I've never had one but they look interesting!

There's also Blueberry Hill (https://www.blueberryhillrestaurants.com/) which is a local Las Vegas place that's great for breakfast. And there's Rubio's and Black Bear Diner in the area (which are chains, but we don't have them in the southeast where I live, so they're places we always go to on Vegas trips, but if you have them where you live it's not such a big deal!). And Sprinkles bakery which I guess is also in other places, but I've only been in Vegas and it's really good.

There's also the Linq (https://www.caesars.com/linq/things-to-do/shopping) which is an outdoor mall/shopping area sort of thing that's pretty cool. It also has a giant ferris wheel.

All the different hotels on the strip have their own attractions. My favorite is the wildlife habitat (https://www.caesars.com/flamingo-las-vegas/things-to-do/wildlife-habitat) at the Flamingo, which is pretty cool (and free). And the various different hotels have their own buffets, too, if you're into that sort of thing.

There's the Crystals shops (https://www.simon.com/mall/the-shops-at-crystals) which is a bunch of super fancy/expensive stores, which aren't really my thing, but it's fun to walk through.

If you want to rent a car, though, you can go out into the desert. Red Rock Canyon (https://www.redrockcanyonlv.org/) is really nice, and I've heard Valley of Fire (https://parks.nv.gov/parks/valley-of-fire) is too, although I haven't personally been to that one. And just driving around in the desert is cool (there are some abandoned mining/ghost towns out there) if you go with someone who knows the area really well (but I imagine you could get lost pretty easily if you don't have someone with you who's familiar with it!).

There's also a town called Summerlin that's pretty close by that has various shops/restaurants.

I've also been to Denver, but don't remember it being too interesting (but I also wasn't there long and didn't get the chance to see much, so that might not be fair). Boulder is really cool, though, and Colorado Springs is pretty cool, too I've been there for work several times.
