The first book is such a slog that I’ve never made it through the rest.

I made it through three books in a year where I was doing a lot of waiting around at airports. That was more than enough for me. There are some interesting concepts in the books but most of the characters are quite flat, and I think the TV show is doing a great job at plucking out the relevant parts and making them actually good.

My review of the books as a fan:

4th + 5th - truly excellent epic fantasy
3rd, 6th, 9th and 11th - very good
12-14th books - Brandon Sanderson
1st, 2nd, and 7th books - OK
8th and 10th books - we do not speak of them

12-14 ere my favorites, but I'm a huge Sanderson fan.

Yeha to be clear I'm not really down on those books, it's more like, those are Sanderson books and how much you like them mostly depends on how much you like Sanderson so it doesn't really make sense to rank them against the rest of the series
