Re: Secrets you don't want to make...

Probably not something I'd admit to a lot of people but.. I'd enjoy writing a harem anime/manga. It honestly seems like it would be a real hoot to make. But what I don't like is most harem stuff written by sleazy men eyeball deep in gross toxic attitudes and the tropes that come with that. What I'd want to write is an original premise involved, deep and interesting characters, and maybe some unexpected twist like the mc being part of the harem and not the leader/focal point of it, or a subby mc with a harem of toppy types. Maybe the harem is a mix of genders and sexualities and the focal character is a queer girl.

Stuff like that. written by someone who's lived life as a girl. That would be interesting. But I feel that there'd be large groups of people who'd hate it from the get go. Whether bc they assume it will be the typical type and be "gross" or bc they're right wingnut types complaining that it's too "woke" for them.

Oh well.

Harem isn't my type of thing in general, but ones like you're describing do exist and I've seen them promoted by fans who want to show other people the shows they like/show that not all harem series are "gross tropes by gross men." I don't remember them because like I said, not my cup of tea in general but I'm sure you could find some recs if you look.

And if you just want proof that not all popular harems are written by men, look no further than Rumiko Takahashi. I think Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura may still lean into some of the tropes you don't like, but she's done other things that are technically considered harem that I've heard are more down-to-earth.

Oh cool. Yeah I've seen and heard good things about Takahshi's stuff. I also like the kind of retro vibe of the look. One of these days I might buy some volumes of Urusei Yatsura and Ramna

I also have a few pixiv accounts so.. I may write some too.
