OP

Just wanted to add that I haven't read the books (and I'm not planning to). I'm willing to accept that their storyline was better handled there.

Yeah - I don't go here but my perception is that the reason people like the Crows in the TV show is because they like them in the books already, not because they're good in the TV show.

Seconded what the above OP said... a lot of that is holdover from the books that focus on the gang and the various heist/con plots with a lot more character development and world building.I think people are just happy to see them pop up in Shadow and Bone, even though, IMO, it doesn't do them justice at all.

Thirding that. Their storyline is fully separate in the books and some of it is dependent on stuff that happens in Alina's storyline, so ... well, cramming them in concurrently instead of consecutive was a choice that I think was made to the detriment of everyone.

For me personally, the Crows are the best part because they're an excellent realisation of the book characters, whereas Alina and that cast (even Nikolai, sad to say) are only a middling realisation.

I saw the series before I read any books (and I only read the two Crow books), and well....I feel like everything interesting and fun was to do with the Crows, and Alina and Mal were just so predictable, generic, and dull (even with evil dark king guy in the mix), that I'd have enjoyed the series a million times more if had been just Crows.

*shrug*
To each their own.
