If you have zero, are you happy with that? What pets do you wish you had?

Two. Both 12 year old cats. I want to get a dog once they pass.

I have one dog, she is turning 16 in June. I love her to bits and have no idea if I'll ever get another after her.

In my dream life I'd have 4 chickens and maybe two goats.

One cat who owns me. I'm very happy with it right now. She is enough for me, and she wouldn't do well with other pets.

My life goal is 2 cats, 2 dogs, a fish tank, and a snake. But that's in the long distant future. Right now I am owned by one precious kitty.

I have one cat. I used to have a second one, but he was terrorizing the first one and also starving him because he was eating all the food. That wasn't the final straw, we were trying to solve/work around that, but rather that he put a four inch scratch up my daughter's face, just missing her eye. She was minding her own business reading a book, he was just careless. We had to have him rehomed.

I kinda wish I had a corgi because of their cute wiggle butts, but my cat is pretty good

Three cats, all rescues, love 'em to death.
Used to have a dog (she went with the ex, she was his, really) and while she's a lovely dog, I don't miss her. Dogs are just too needy.
Cats are the only pets for me.

My housemate has 3 cats, I have 1 dog, and we often talk/joke about how needy we think the others pets are. Mine needs walks twice a day which she finds a pain in the butt, but hers need a lot of supervision and the dreaded litterbox. It's just funny, how we both think our animals are low needs but really its just whatever conformed to our personalities/lives.

I dunno - my cats don't need any supervision, just fresh water, fresh food, and yes, the litterboxes. But otherwise, they sleep, and follow me around, and claw their cardboard thingies and....that's about it. I guess it depends on the pet you have, really.

True. We joke that her cats have the souls of tiny yippy dogs and my dog has the soul of a somewhat standoffish independent cat.

My best friend had to say goodbye to his dog a couple of years ago, and as much as I know it wrecked him he did say that it was weirdly freeing not having to wake up for early morning walks anymore. He was completely devoted to her and I know he'd move the earth to have her back but dogs just require so much attention and commitment and while I love hanging with them for an afternoon, I couldn't have one long-term. I can barely look after myself, like.

For me: fun day out at the pub on a sunny day, dogs. Sleepy cuddles on a rainy evening: cats.

Yeah, my ex-SO is the same. He'll feel kind of freed when our old gog moves on, but it really upsets him to think about, despite how much extra care she takes now.

I have four cats, ages 3-7, and one 10 year old dog. It's pretty great! Everyone gets along pretty well and it's a good time. I'll probably always have at least one dog and one cat, because for me they just make a house feel more like a home. I'm planning on getting an aquarium set up in the near-ish future and also some hens (I have experience with both).

I wish I had some. I love animals but I'm very allergic to cats and my apt bldg doesn't allow other pets. :(

I've got one, a cat. He's almost three now. I'd love to have another but I'm saving up to move to a new place so--maybe then, but only maybe. My cat isn't really keen on sharing me.

I have zero... I guess I'm all right with that? I can barely take care of myself so I'm sure a pet wouldn't really thrive in my household. Plus, rent's ridiculous and I can't afford pet fees and general pet expenses on top of that.

Two cats, one 15 yr old black ragamuffin and one 14 yr old black domestic shorthair. The shorthair was a rescue when he was a kitten, and the ragamuffin was adopted when he was 8.

I've had a cat, a fish, a dog, a gerbil, and a bird as pets as a child (not all at once, thank god). I definitely prefer cats.

We have three; two dogs and one cat. We were only ever going to have our dog but then we bought a house with a feral cat on the property so we took the cat in. And that was it. Definitely no more. But then I almost ran over this little terrier who was literally starving to death and covered in fleas and ticks. Then we found out he’d been dumped on the interstate and the shelter kept refusing to take him and everyone who found him kept dumping him over and over because of the fleas. So we kept him. Turned out the fleas were the least of his worries and we went into debt paying for his treatment but he’s worth it.
But no more. Seriously. I want a raccoon and I want ferrets and a squirrel and three more cats and some reptiles but I also want to be able to relax so no more for real this time!

I have two cats, and they absolutely LOVED when both my husband and I were both WFH. Since I've been going back into the office most days, they get rather clingy when I am home. My husband is still WFH, so they get to hang out with him more often.

None. Part of me would like some but I also like not having to take care of anyone/thing except myself. It's the same reason I don't have a spouse/kids, and while those are absolutely not worth the trouble for me, a pet might be. So maybe I'll get some someday but also...maybe not. I don't know.

None. I wish I could have a cat or two, but I have allergies. :(

2 kitties! Our young lady cat lost her brother in January and he left a massive hole for all of us, so after some grieving time we found her a kitten companion. She was very unimpressed at first but now tears around the house playing with him and we've caught her cuddling up to him and giving him baths. He's too young to go out so she brings him feathers to play with and the occasional mouse as a present. He's completely obsessed with her and follows her everywhere and it warms my heart.

I'm a bit funny about keeping things in cages/boxes, otherwise I would love to have birds, fish or snakes. If they could just run rampant. My first partner had a pet snake and I adored him.
