Re: Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Breath of the Wild was a very intentional shift from the traditional Zelda formula, so if you're looking for something like the games you've already played, I wouldn't recommend Tears of the Kingdom, which is a direct sequel to BotW on top of that.

I'd instead recommend the Link's Awakening remake. The original LA was actually the base for the Oracle games, and the remake adds some solid quality-of-life and art direction updates. The plot is simple but has a famous twist, and I personally preferred how the love interest just hangs out and goes about her daily life instead of being locked away in a tower like so many Zeldas. The only pain point I have with it is the price, since it costs the exact same amount as BotW (before BotW's DLC, anyway) for a game that is essentially a Gameboy game with a shiny new coat of paint.

With all that said, if you're fine with the open-world gameplay and don't care that it's a sequel, you'll probably enjoy Tears of the Kingdom. Even as someone who came down on the cool side of Breath of the Wild, I'll still be buying TotK myself. Just, uh, not on release day.
