Re: Worst protagonists in media you love

I’m a fan of DC and Marvel comics, and I usually don’t hate a character completely just because they’ve done something to piss me off in one series or issue(unless it continues for a while). Because different writers can make wildly different interpretations of the same character, sometimes at the exact same time as each other. But I find that I can let the bad actions of a character affect whether I like them really fast if I already thought they were boring or annoying.

The protagonists I dislike the most would be Hank Pym and Clint Barton for Marvel. And Oliver Queen, Barry Allen, and Hal Jordan for DC. I like other Flashes, Green Lanterns, and Ant-Men, and I like Kate Bishop(Wyatt McDonald is okay). I also love Roy Harper, and that’s part of why I hate Oliver. I just don’t like these specific characters who happen to bear the names of these heroes.

And I wish the writers and higher ups would stop insisting that these are the specific characters that are the “best” ones to bear the names, and should be the ones to represent the title in every adaptation(even when they have to play fast and loose with the source material just to fit them in with everyone else when they normally wouldn’t belong there). Or that they should be the only ones to take the name as long as they’re writing for the company, even if they have to retcon everything or kill off their successor just to get them back in the mantle. Just because they were the ones wearing the mantle when they were kids, and everything was ~so much better then~. Especially in regards to Barry Allen and Hal Jordan. Wally West and Jay Garrick are way better Flashes, and John Stewart and Kyle Rayner are much better Green Lantern protagonists. Scott Lang is also way better than Hank Pym, but he doesn’t seem to get treated as badly as Barry and Hal’s successors.

That’s all just my opinion, obviously.
