Have you watched Alone? It's a survival reality competition show! I'm not a fan of reality or most competition shows so I haven't personally watched it but I have several friends that love Alone.

But now you've got me thinking about what other genres/jobs could work as reality competition show.

I watched a couple of episodes of Alone last year. It's pretty good.

There's LEGO Masters (Lego), Project Greenlight (films), The Amazing Race (race around the world), Ink Master (tattoos), Forged in Fire (bladesmithing), America's Top Dog (dog training), and more.

There was Face Off (special effects make-up), Last Comic Standing (stand-up comedy), America's Best Dance Crew (dance), Skin Wars (bodypainting), Making It (handmade crafts), and more.

I miss design shows but I wish they'd use regular people who apply and not designers. More of a decorating show really, because people without knowledge of loadbearing walls shouldn't be knocking down walls.

There used to be great UK design shows that were like this, not super extreme or out of most people's budgets.

I hate that HGTV is all real estate stuff.

A Cut Above is chainsaw carving. Every week I am amazed at the detail.

Pottery Throwdown is great, too, especially the one judge who is so moved by the pottery that he gets teary eyed.
