To be fair I would kind of like an explanation for why the first apology was so bad. But that's more out of curiosity than anything else.

Probably because they didn't realize one was needed, since the person didn't say OMG, AI, IT'S SO GREAT!! and invite ever AI thing out there to come 'scrape' (shudders) AO3.

I just don't get why anyone is so upset over that interview, because she didn't say anything awful or even bad.
*shrug*

And, collectives rarely write good apologies.

No, the interview's fine, I just want to know why they initially tried to explain it away by saying it was "just one of our 900 volunteers" when the person was the head of Legal, because that's just such a bad, sus explanation.

They are a volunteer, but they're a very important one who has a great deal of power and influence over what the organization does - they're the head of the legal committee and they have been for, like, a decade.
