What exactly would an anime themed wedding look like? Do you just mean the music choices or would you be cosplaying or something?

I was just thinking about this the other day.

Funnily enough, in Mexico, the song 'Mi Corazón Encantado' (Dan Dan Kokoro Hikareteku), the OP from Dragon Ball GT, is a popular wedding song in geeky circles. And honestly, it's actually heartwarming.

The song is about romance and marriage, and the most memorable time it is played is on the series' ending. I think that it why it hits a lot of people right in the heart, because they associate it as the ending of a journey.

That's really interesting to me because personally, I always thought if I was to get married, I'd want the recessional to be the Final Fantasy main theme, sometimes known as the "bridge-crossing theme" because in multiple games it doesn't play RIGHT at the beginning, but at the point where the characters and setting have been established and they're about to start off on the real adventure. It's always seemed like a "just beginning our true journey" theme and thus perfect for walking back down the aisle.

So it's kind of that, but in reverse? Like the journey is over, now that they've found each other?

At any rate, can't underestimate the emotional load of anime/game music and the associations they carry to the fans.

Cruel Angel's Thesis would certainly be unconventional as a wedding march, but if you want to, I think it could work! 1) A slower arrangement of it for the organ would be interesting, 2) non-weebs wouldn't even recognize it, 3) fellow anime fans will either think it's cool or cringe, but just remind the latter of point 2.

People that recognize the song would also probably think that it's a stab at the groom's mother, because the song is about a mother lamenting her son's growth into adulthood and leaving the nest.

I could see the orchestral version of the Ouran High Host Club theme (which is part of the official soundtrack) as a wedding tune.

Also reccing the Haibane Renmei soundtrack too.

I knew a couple who had an anime themed wedding in that the groomsmen all wore shinsengumi uniforms (the groom wore a captain's uniform) and the bridesmaids wore the sailor senshi's princess dresses from the manga (the bride was wearing galadriel's dress form lord of the rings tho). I don't remember what song she said she walked down the aisle to but I know in another wedding I was actually in, we (bridesmaids/groomsmen) walked down the aisle to the Nemuro Memorial Hall theme from Revolutionary Girl Utena and she walked down the aisle to My Only Love from the English dub of Sailor Moon in the 90s. I think Utena's Toki Ni Ai Wa would make a good walk/first dance song?

I feel like this is the sort of thing you could easily get away with if you're subtle enough about it. A few touches here and there: if they don't watch anime, how will they know?

Rinbu Revolution.

A friend of mine had an Utena and Portal themed wedding! It was great, it got a write-up here:

This was so sweet! And the hand made embellished corset was gorgeous! And that cake!

Honestly, looked like a lovely wedding. I love it when people really give themselves a wedding with plenty of thought and attention to detail that still really nails the personalities of the couple. Congratulations to them ! Were you attending?

Anon, you know better than us, but based on very limited information, I'd say you should bring it up and go for it. Because "I want to, but I don't know what his family will think" will be a thing you have to deal with in the future, too, and having a wedding at all ... is supposed to be deeply meaningful to you.

If the parents would be unhappy, nothing wrong with having two different wedding ceremonies, or at least two different receptions.

My wedding wasn't anime themed, but I literally considered "Yakusoku wa Iranai" for wedding music! It's a beautiful, romantic song.
