I watched Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down the other day.

I was struck how WHD is a better constructed movie in many ways, and certainly made more attempts to use the whole WH as a setting... and yet OHF was still a more enjoyable, better movie as a whole.

There are a lot of reasons I feel this way, but the main one comes down to: both of these movies are Die Hard in the White House, but WHD tried too hard to make Channing Tatum John McClane when he really, really isn't.

Gerard Butler has a lot more charisma and is more believable as a gruff action hero, which helps, but OHF also didn't try to make him JM. They let him be grumpy old Gerard Butler instead. And it worked a lot better.
