Shh, I am trying very hard to ignore the rampant use of "fag" and "nigger" across the internets in order to maintain what little faith in humanity I have left.

Oddly, I've noticed that the only people I see using 'fag' on livejournal tend to use it to refer to their friends in a... mockingly endearing way or something?

I dunno why, but I found it kind of strange.

That... I don't really mind so much, except in the cases where it's obvious they're using it to be edgy (like when they fit it in EVERY SENTENCE). What I really hate is appending "fag" to pretty much everything. "Moralfag," "Narufag," etc. Basically, stuff where it's being used in a way that is demeaning. Also "do it faggot" and such.

I dunno, I don't mind being called a Suzakufag, for instance, or a Geassfag. In the same way I don't mind being called a Narutard.

But only by fellow Narutards/Suzakufags/Geassfags. :/ Whenever I see someone use it as an honest insult, and not just a lulzy-fun-slightly-offensive-endearing-nickname, I get annoyed. o.0

I dislike words like that because they continue to associate "retard" and "faggot" with insults when they represent a specific group of people. And of course it brings down those people when those words are used. Basically, I hate the "-fag" and "-tard" words because they reinforce derogatory terms.

The reason why I'm more "eh" on friends using "fag" jokingly between each other is because I have no way of knowing if they aren't homosexual/bisexual and trying to reclaim the word.

Quite a few of my friends throw around the word faggot when talking to each other, the habits even rubbed off on me a little.

Then again, we're all either les, gay, or bi so I guess that's not so bad? Come to think of it.. I don't think there's a true "straight person" in my close circle of friends anymore now that I puzzle the matter over.

That's true. Which is why it bothers me when someone uses it as an insult. When I think about it, it should really probably bother me also when I and others use it as a self-deprecating kind of nickname, but... :/ I don't know.

The more you use a word, the less meaning it'll potentially have.

I'm not offended, at all, by "faggot", or any other homophobic term. Why should they offend me? Why should I or any other gay/bi person turn into a sniveling little crybaby whenever someone yells "faggot"? There are a lot more horrible things than words.

It's true that if the people the word was meant to demean use the word, they can take power away from it. An example would be how blacks have reclaimed "nigger." And I do support GLBTQ people attempting to reclaim the word "fag." But what I'm talking about is its continued use as a derogatory term.

It's fine that you're not offended, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't offend anyone else, and they have every right to be offended by a word that is meant to insult them.
