I've often thought that there are things from some sections of fandom that sound a lot like the 'rules' my poo-brain gives me.

I'm kind of puzzled by how much of the hysterical haranguing in fandom sounds like OCD. Complete with its baseless accusations, catastrophizing, etc. but on a giant soapbox addressed to the world at large. There's a characteristic twitchiness to it.

It seems rather tragic to me that a thought process that ascribes so much moral importance and responsibility to meaningless rituals, like "only talking or writing about allowed subjects in the right way" seems compelling to anyone and worth spending energy proselytizing for. But even harder to understand that people who don't have this reactionary monologue in their own head often aren't confident enough in their judgment to reject it when anyone else puts it forward.
