To be fair/charitable to a very grumpy fandom, the Star Wars Brand under Disney does very much court this kind of reaction with a lot of projects running on hype machines and super aggressive callbacks/fanservice/etc. Ever since TFA the majority of SW stuff seems to be trying to squeeze every drop of joy (money) out 'HEY! IT'S THAT THING YOU LOVE! WE BOUGHT THE RIGHTS TO THING YOU LOVE!!!' and...people who love it want it to be good, and give it a chance, and let themselves get excited. But ultimately end up soured on a lot of things where less effort was put into writing something of substance that could stand up as a show or movie or whatever without the Star Wars Clout, and more effort was put into marketing and pizzaz and yanking the nostalgia heartstrings. So the longer you sit and think about it, the less you like it, because the substance isn't there.

I'm not saying theyre all bad, or even mostly? But the overall trend is to be flimsier than they present themselves as on first blush. It makes sense to me that a lot of SW fans are stuck in that hype-disappointment cycle.

The SW fandom isn't a monolith but it is full of loud and angry bad faith actors that just love to hate things because that gets them more views. They love using one SW property as a stick to beat others with and that's why their views change.

TFA was used as a stick to beat the prequels with. Then the Mandalorian was used to beat the sequels, and now Andor is the new favorite that's beating down the Mandalorian. It's all so see-through.

There are a lot of edgy wannabe film snobs in SW fandom, is my answer. They are constantly terrified that people are not taking this campy fun throwback to the old serials seriously as great works of fiction.

The fans panned the Prequels hard when they came out. Even the shippers just focused on the shipping and ignored the hell out of the rest of it. But fandom loved The Clone Wars, and that's when the Prequels started getting some retroactive love, well before TFA. And even most fans are more than willing to admit that the Prequels have flaws.

It's possible that something similar could salvage the Sequels someday, but it's less likely precisely because they are sequels. The Prequels were limited in how much they could fuck around with Star Wars because they had to stay at least somewhat within the lines of the established canon. The Sequels couldn't even stay consistent with their own canon and by the end, almost no one was happy with how anyone's stories played out.

Jokes on yall. I loved the prequels when they came out because they were the first Star Wars movies I'd seen and I was a kid.

A lot of it is to do with hype. People got waaaay to hyped for the prequels, and then they weren't exactly as what fans had pictured, and people were disappointed. Same with the sequels that had to compete with the EU.

Fans have specific ideas and feelings about characters like Han Solo, Boba Fett and Obi-Wan, so those projects would never live up to the hype for everyone either.

The projects fans have proclaimed as the 'Greatest SW since Empire' in recent years are all things that didn't get as much hype or that people couldn't really label in advance: Rogue One, Mandalorian, Andor. But for Mandalorian when S2 came out it couldn't sustain that. Same thing will probably happen to Andor.

The Ahsoka series does look good, but I hear some of the excitement sometimes and am already dreading the backlash.

I'm a casual Star Wars fan, as in I enjoy the movies but don't seem to have the ability to watch the shows for whatever reason, and to me the fandom has always seemed very... intense and like nothing the canon does ever makes them happy. I'm sure that's not all the fans and there'll be groups who like stuff that looks like it's hated by everyone. But given how loud the fandom is, and how loud the fans who complain are, it can be hard to tell if any of the fans even like the canon they consume a lot of the time. It honestly looks exhausting from the outside and I feel sorry for the chill fans who want to like what they do.

I mean... Obi-Wan was a series so it's not exactly surprising that people might have liked how it started out but weren't thrilled by how it developed. I sure as hell wasn't.

How is Hammond more evil in the book? I personally like that Hammond isn't completely evil in the movie but all the problems were cause by his faults and bad decisions.

Sorry if this secret makes me sound like a jerk. I guess I was just tired of seeing drama over the kind of things and the way use of a tag a s treated as automatically condoning whatever it is. It's just frustrating but I know that it's not everyone at least .

Yeah, it's not really an advanced nation when just some dude can take over in trial by combat and almost everyone in power just... does what he says, regardless of the morality of it. Like sure, you can have the most advanced tech and all the money, but if you're one bad leader away from becoming fascist, you're not actually a good country. *looks at the camera in american*

And now I'm recalling how NBC managed to tie Empty Nest, The Golden Girls, Nurses and one other sitcom (I think; can't remember the name) all together with a megaplot about an incoming hurricane. It worked on child me because I grew up in Florida and was excited to see my state represented in such a way. WHy that's the thing I remember is a mystery.
