This is how it seems to me, too: like a lot of people want to like the new Star Wars thing and it takes them a while to admit that what they went to see and hoped to be moved by is not there.

I got off the carousel and haven't looked back after Rebels definitively killed off Darth Maul, but it was relatively straightforward for me to do that because I've always been a fan, primarily, of the Star Wars villains. And none of the new villains seem to have much in the way of personality or complexity or even just raw ability. Disney just doesn't have the ability to captivate, anymore, and that's been apparent to me for a while. But it makes for poor attempts at storytelling.

I agree. I mean, I'm not saying this is true for any one specific person, but IMO it's definitely true as a general trend.
