Belated, but fuck Mother’s Day.

Yeah, it's a nauseating holiday. It breeds entitlement in some people, which is annoying to see even from a distance. This is the one time I'm kind of glad my mom and both grandmothers are no longer alive. I don't have to deal with this obligation anymore.

I'm over it and have been since my mother passed away. I don't begrudge people their happiness or celebration, but it's a little... difficult... seeing so much commercial stuff to remind people to do this or buy that for their mom.

I also suffer from slight embarrassment when people tell me happy mother's day when they know I don't have kids, but have a dog and call me a "dog mom". Please no. I love my dog and all, but it's not the same, I do not call myself her mom and... just stop. :(

You have my sympathy. I had the same thing happen this year, someone wished me a happy mother's day because I have a dog. I have zero problem with other people calling themselves their pet's parent, but I don't call myself that and don't want other people to call me that. I said 'Oh, I'm not his mother', thinking that would be it, but she insisted that I was. I think she had good intentions, but it was pretty unpleasant. I feel lucky that it isn't a painful subject for me as it is for others.

We don't have mother's day (we have but it's not something especially celebrated) but every drama I read around it gives me???!! emotions.

What I hate about it is when other people bring it up. "What are you getting/doing for your mom on Mother's Day?" And if you are honest about it, "But she's your mom."

Not going to turn my relationship with my mom into a whole discourse where I have to defend my right to feel the way I feel about my mom

I have a great relationship with my mom and I feel weird about there being a holiday for it. She's always taken the position that SHE'S the one who wanted a child so I don't owe her a goddamned thing. The holiday just makes her uncomfortable which makes me uncomfortable about it. It'd be great if we could ditch it, along with father's day.
