Exactly what I was going to say! Complaining that the movies are "too messagey" is definitely not helping their claim to not be racist.

Exactly what I was coming down here to comment. It smacks of "I don't mind those [marginalized group]s existing, I just don't approve of their lifestyle/don't want their beliefs shoved in my face." Where sub in your group of choice; blacks, queers, immigrants, etc.

"Too messagey" is basically a dogwhistle at this point.
