Vidders are great (partly HP related)

I was poking at YouTube because I figured the Magical Beasts movies would be chalk full of Dumbledore this and Scamander that, and it would be a waste for me to sit through the movie waiting for whichever unsatisfying crumbs they dropped about Grindelwald. (And I like Johnny Depp well enough as an actor, but the character design department made him look like a human crossed with a cockatoo.) So I suspected I'd be much better off with a soundtrack and someone who felt like compiling every scrap of new film villain footage. As a result, it took me reading the video comments to find out that fans resourcefully added stuff the actor who depicted young Grindelwald did, in other TV shows and movies, because he got so little screentime in FB.

I know vidders have been doing this for ages, but it's still a joy to come across. I love not having to depend on what's in a particular movie and being able to admire the love and creativity and work that goes into these beautiful, unauthorized recuts.

I do have one thing that I wish was different, though. A lot of the vids that I liked on YouTube two, five, ten years ago are gone without a trace. I try to keep my computer backed up, but the prospect of never being able to find them again if something happens to my backups seems like a big loss. I was wondering if anyone knows of a vid archive or vid library or something like that. Because I can't tell if all this stuff disappears because the people who made it stop wanting the world to be able to see it, or because YouTube and similar sites are quietly but systematically tipping their old content into a dumpster to free up memory for whatever might trend next.
