Manga > all, imo. If you didn't read it, I recommend doing so OP.

Agreed. But as for the films: I think once the L movie comes out, I'll rent all three. I've actually not seen them, but I've heard about certain plot points that I like.

Worth renting, I suppose, they're entertaining enough in your own right as long as you're not judging them on accuracy to manga canon.

Agreed. It's fine to prefer whatever versions you prefer, but since the OP doesn't mention the manga, I can only gather that he or she hasn't read it. You should give it a shot, OP. It's quite good.

I like the manga best, but that doesn't really matter here. What DOES matter is that I'm very, very happy to find someone else who liked the movies better than the anime. As much as I loved the manga, the anime bored me to tears and I stopped less than halfway through... but the movies were awesome.

i hate anime fandom too. bunch of whiny ass bitches. i read manga but i dont discuss it because everyone else who likes manga/anime pisses me off like HELL

I like the manga the best, and the anime next. Movies I couldn't get into. But the anime...dear GOD I love the music. The character themes are fantastic.

Either way, I think it's possible to get into the manga without fandom. I sure did. <3
