Prussia was a conservative, hyper-militaristic nation, and, no, you would not want to live there, because for the longest time, only the rich, military elite had any sort of say in the government.

I... I am with you most of the way with this. But... He's lonely? For me that's just a 'so what?' point. Plenty of the characters I lonely. I want to hug Russia more for his loneliness than Prussia. I love him simply because he is.

The Geopolitics student in me kind of wants to sit down and explain to OP that if Prussia still existed as a country today it would be nothing like the 18th century Prussia, for reasons that are really obvious. And you'd probably find it boring as hell. Gilbert's a great character, but I think Hidekaz kind of decided he can go crazy with his design precisely because he figured he can't presently offend anyone with it? I mean I doubt you'll find Hetalia implying that Sweden, for example, was a warmongering, bloodthirsty bastard at some point in the past. Actually, most of our history can be summarized as 'countries/regions/whatever being warmongering, bloodthirsty bastards.'
