My biggest squick is humiliation in fics. I just can't read it at all. Which sucks because I like BDSM but a lot of times humiliation is involves and not warned for.

It is so frustrating how humiliation/degradation is seen as an automatic in a lot of BDSM fics. I'm with you in that I do not appreciate it. With the exception of I read one fic where the humiliation was that the Dom was praising the sub and it made them squirmy. Still rode that line for me, but as it was all loving and complimentary it kind of worked for me too.

I absolutely love praise kink though.

Praise kink is my absolute favorite thing. It is probably not a coincidence that my two current OTPS both involve a character who I absolutely, strongly headcanon has a massive praise kink.

Yes to all the praise kink. And this fic framed the praise as a definite humiliation thing, which was new and if you had asked me I would have said a squick but it definitely worked. If I could remember the fic I'd link it, but sadly my brain is mush.

Like... SO many times a scene in a fic will have the Dom calling the sub 'slut' and it slaps me in the face every time (not in the fun way) when it's a character who... would not do that? For one ship, it feels like A) a word the Dom wouldn't use and B) a thing that could genuinely upset a sub who had more of a sexual history than his Dom and like... it's one thing to be proud of your experience when you're just being your own person, but it's different when it feels like your partner is judging you for having slept with considerably more people. Another it just feels... out of character for them, not in a potentially upsetting way so much as that's NOT the vibe, so it still feels pasted on, like the writer thinks that needs to happen in every D/s relationship.

Praise making characters squirmy is A++ though. Most of my ships I read/write kinky fics for I see being heavier on praise-- I tend to read/write Doms who might tease a little, but they don't have a *mean* side, they just get off on control (and if too much praise makes their sub lose it, that flavor of humiliation can be fun). I can only really think of one of my main/current ships where I see the sub being into name-calling and light humiliation, and to be fair, he *might* be a brat about it in response (and... I get that impression because 'being a brat about it' had been his canon response to being handcuffed, called names, and subjected to the very lightest possible humiliation)

Hard same.

The only ship I can take humiliation in is Kylo/Hux, and then only because it feels in character and still with a healthy balance of praise.

Mostly I really hate humiliation. And I tend to gravitate towards ships where I think the dynamic will lean towards healthy kink and lots of praise.

I really hate that, too. And, oddly, I also loathe praise kink.

Saaaame. I love some BDSM, well mostly bontage part of it.
And I hate humiliation. Also I am not into praise kink too. So it's "fun" finding readable fics
