For me, it's an instinctive defensiveness born from years of having my interests dismissed, ignored, and trivialized by my family. I know jumping on other people for expressing their negative opinion on something I like is an asshole move, so I've been actively trying to move my instinct more into a comedy direction than a defensive one. Like, "hey, if you try to make the thing they hate about it funny, maybe they'll like it?" I know it doesn't work like that, but the end result is not being a dick about it, and that's what's important.

I felt it in my bones.
I am a whole ass adult but I still get defensive and I don't like sharing my thoughts about things I like. Because my interests were always dismissed and ridiculed. I only should have liked the right things (exm. books. And no one checked actually if they are for my age or something) and never the wrong things (exm. anime. I had to watch Sailor Moon and Gundam secretly like it's a porn).
